Every year in June at the Woodside Lodge we host our Prohibition Porch Party. What was Prohibition? Prohibition in the United States was a national ban on the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol, in place from 1920 to 1933 by the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution. The ban resulted in the growth of vast criminal organizations, including the modern American Mafia.
What are we celebrating that for?
It's the unofficial start of summer and the porch is open for dining! The Woodside was built in 1922, during prohibition. There was no bar at the original Woodside, but folks were known to drink at such "dry" places, by having their alcohol served in coffee cups! Perhaps even out on the porch where passers-by would think they were simply enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.
And Prohibition Porch Party is just fun to say!
Be Aware: As was common then, there will be a gun check at the door and you must know the password to get in. Just say, "Bugsy sent me" and remember the password is "Blind Pig!"
While the Woodside takes reservations inside, we will not be accepting reservations for the porch dining this weekend. It will be first come, first served.
